who we are

Ceres Restaurant has recently been taken over by new owners. Although the restaurant is still proudly working out of its previous location at 554 High Street, in the heart of the historical port area, it has undergone a facelift whilst keeping true to the buildings origins and maintaining the ambience and atmosphere, continuing on with the same well known quality of food and amazing service.

Ceres Restaurants’ serves authentic Italian meals made by Italian chefs . We pride ourselves on having fresh, locally and regionally sourced produce and producing flavoursome meals put together with hard work, passion and skill. The wine list has a similar definition boasting quality local wines by the glass whilst also offering great drops sourced from further afar. There have been some exciting changes happening with in the restaurant, including the introduction of ‘Next Level Ceres’ a wine and tapas bar which is be trading out of what was previously known as the function room. With a touch of class mixed in with a relaxing and comfortable feel it will be the place to go for a drink and tapas to share.

MEANING - THE ROMAN GODDESS OF AGRICULTURE

ORIGINS:

IN 2007 AT 2/8 NISH STREET, ECHUCA IN THE ORIGINAL FLOUR MILL BUILDING. THIS BUILDING AND ITS HISTORY INSPIRED THE BUSINESS NAME 'CERES'.

CERES MOVED TO ITS CURRENT LOCATION AT 554 HIGH STREET ECHUCA IN FEBRUARY 2011 TO JOIN THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF THE HISTORICAL PORT AREA, A LOCAL ATTRACTION THAT BRINGS PEOPLE FROM FAR AND WIDE


THE HISTORY OF 554 HIGH STREET:

CERES RESIDES TODAY IN A BUILDING FULL OF RICH HISTORY. BUILT IN 1868 IT OPENED AS THE 'TOWN HALL HOTEL'. THE GLEESON FAMILY RAN IT AS A PUB UNTIL IT WAS DELICENSED AS THE RESULT OF A LOCAL OPTION HEARING AFTERWARDS THE DOWNSTAIRS AREA BECAME A SHOP AND THE UPSTAIRS RESIDENTIAL. A WATCHMAKER OCCUPIED THE SHOP FROM 1899 UNTIL 1922, WHEN E.GOUGH OPENED A CHEMIST'S SHOP WHICH TRADED IN THIS LOCATION UNTIL 1973.

RUMOUR HAS IT THERE WAS A TUNNEL THAT RAN FROM THE UNDERGROUND CELLAR TO THE TOWNS COUNCIL CHAMBERS, SUPPLYING SUBSTANCES OF BOTH ALCOHOLIC AND EROTIC ORIGINS ALLOWING DISCREET NOCTURNAL ACTIVITIES.

CERES TODAY:

CERES NOW MAKES THE MOST OF THE BEAUTIFUL BUILDING IT RESIDES IN, HAVING SPACE FOR A QUIET MEAL INSIDE, UTILIZING THE DECK AREA FOR FUNCTIONS AND THE UPSTAIRS AS A WINE AND TAPAS BAR. YOU CAN FEEL THE RICH HISTORY OF THE BUILDING WHIST ENJOYING SOME WINE AND TAPAS, HAVING A FUNCTION WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY OR DELIGHTING IN A FLAVOURSOME MEAL.
